Do traditional models of leadership work in all conditions?

Some of you may remember our New Year's message encouraging us to take a positive and resilient view on what was likely to be a challenging year.

So far so good, but a lingering question still was: "what type of leader do you need when the business outlook turns from sunny to uncertain to very wet?" After all, many of today's senior managers have never come through a real recession...

So we embarked on our quest to identify the characteristics of All-Weather Leaders.

We carried out an extensive survey of business leaders and senior HR practitioners – many of you were involved – and the results are just in. They are statistically significant and they provide plenty of insight for both leaders and HR directors...

All-Weather Leaders are Balanced Leaders, say 90% of our respondents

The eight characteristics of the Balanced Leader identified by WWS constitute the fundamental attributes of successful leaders, according to your responses. Fewer than one in 10 advocate traditional narrow models of leadership.

These eight characteristics represent what leaders should aim for as they advance through their career. All eight should be developed in parallel as they are co-dependent. This will allow leaders to deal with complex and uncertain situations as they arise.

There is a clear path to attract, retain and develop leaders

The research also illustrates how leaders grow to become All-Weather Leaders: through formal and informal learning, experimentation and networking. The white paper – based on your experience and recommendations – draws up a vivid portrait of what should be done both in terms of processes and resources. It also makes specific suggestions on how to build an environment that will foster positive achievement and drive at all levels

So what? –10 tips for action

Our white paper gives you our top 10 tips for action, so that you can start right away evaluating, designing and delivering enhanced leadership programmes. It also provides leaders with a roadmap of skills and experiences to acquire, networks to build and ideas of how to manage through turbulent times...

Drop us an email to receive a full pdf of the white paper or, even better, give us a call to discuss your specific circumstances and what this new research means for your organisation.
